I’m Dr. Lauren Gould
HELLO AND WELCOME!
My journey with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) began about 30 years ago.
I know what it’s like to face invisible symptoms that disrupt every part of life and to spend years searching for clarity. These experiences are what led me to become a Health Psychologist. My passion is to help others feel understood and supported in managing chronic medical concerns to safeguard their quality of life.
Important tools for navigating life with these conditions and other related health concerns are out of reach for so many people. So, I created this space to share the resources I would’ve wanted as a patient years ago and that I’ve seen can help people get on the path to feeling better.
I want you to be able to find clarity and compassion without the barriers that too often stand in the way, whether you’re living with a chronic health concern, caring for someone who is, or a clinician hoping to learn more.
My health problems are far more manageable than they once were because of the knowledge I’ve gained, and I hold that same hope for others.
Education & Training
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I’m a Licensed Health Psychologist specializing in the management of chronic medical conditions. My primary clinical interests include mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), dysautonomia (including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome/POTS), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS)/hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD), and related concerns.
Before founding Neurenity, I spent 2 years as a clinician at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland to complete my 5th year pre-doctoral internship as well as post-doctoral fellowship.
While there, I worked with many adolescents and young adults diagnosed with POTS and other forms of orthostatic intolerance (OI), hEDS/HSD, MCAS, long COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), sleep disorders, chronic pain, epilepsy, and migraine, among other concerns.
I also provided consultation for patients admitted for acute medical problems at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, across subspecialty clinics including the POTS Clinic and Pain Clinic, and for patients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, and chronic pain in the Rehabilitation Unit. As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, I was a provider and team member of the POTS Clinic and Concussion Clinic.
Prior to that, I spent 4 years at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) with a Concentration in Health and my Master’s (MS) along the way. I received extensive education in anatomy and physiology, organ system performance, neurobiology, pharmacology, chronic illness management, pediatrics, chronic pain management, and behavioral assessment and intervention for medical patients.
As a doctoral student, I completed clinical practica training as a clinician and member of the heart and kidney transplant teams at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, in neuropsychological evaluation, in child and adolescent post-traumatic stress, and at a private practice in Miami, Florida. I was also a teaching assistant/lecturer for NSU’s College of Dental Medicine for two semesters. My dissertation (directed study) focused on pediatric food-induced anaphylaxis and health-related quality of life.
Before that, I attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota for 4 years where I completed my Bachelor’s (BA) in Psychology and played NCAA Women’s Tennis.
