I’m Dr. Lauren Gould

HELLO AND WELCOME!

My journey with chronic health concerns began with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) about 30 years ago. Over time, other problems surfaced, including mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), nearly fatal anaphylaxis, suspected craniocervical instability (CCI), and chronic migraine, among others. Living with the “trifecta” has impacted how I think about health and how I connect with others on a similar path.

I know what it’s like to face invisible symptoms that disrupt every part of life, to spend years searching for clarity, and to be dismissed by a healthcare system still learning how to address these conditions. These experiences are what led me to become a Health Psychologist. My passion is to help others feel understood and supported in managing very real chronic medical concerns so their quality of life can improve.

During my clinical training, I realized that the necessary tools for navigating life with the “trifecta” and other chronic health concerns are out of reach for so many people, which never sat right with me. This was something I wanted to help change and bring awareness to, so I created Neurenity. Whether you’re living with a chronic health concern, caring for someone who is, or a healthcare professional hoping to learn more, I want this to be a space where you can find clarity, compassion, and progress—without the long waitlists and other barriers that too often stand in the way.

I continue to experience symptoms every day, but my conditions are far more manageable than they once were because of the knowledge I’ve gained. I hold that same hope for others. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my children, cooking for my family, and playing tennis with my husband. These moments remind me that joy and connection are possible, even when life with chronic health concerns is unpredictable.

Education & Training

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I’m a Licensed Health Psychologist specializing in the management of chronic medical conditions, including hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS)/hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and dysautonomia (including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome/POTS), among others.

Before founding Neurenity, I spent 2 years at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland to complete my 5th year pre-doctoral internship training as well as post-doctoral fellowship.

While there, I worked with many adolescents and young adults diagnosed with POTS and other forms of orthostatic intolerance (OI), hEDS/HSD, MCAS, long COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), sleep disorders, chronic pain, epilepsy, and migraine, among others.

I also provided consultation for patients admitted for acute medical problems at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, as well as across subspecialty clinics, including the POTS Clinic, Neurology Sleep Clinic, and Pain Clinic, and for patients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, and chronic pain in the Rehabilitation Unit. As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, I was a clinician and team member of the POTS Clinic and Concussion Clinic.

Prior to that, I spent 4 years at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I earned my Master’s degree (MS) and Doctorate (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in Clinical Health Psychology. I received extensive education in anatomy and physiology, organ system performance, neurobiology, pharmacology, chronic illness management, pediatrics, chronic pain management, and behavioral assessment and intervention for medical patients.

As a doctoral student, I completed clinical practica training as a member of the heart and kidney transplant teams at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, in neuropsychological evaluation, in child and adolescent post-traumatic stress, and at a private practice in Miami, Florida. I was also a teaching assistant for NSU’s College of Dental Medicine for two consecutive years. My dissertation (directed study) focused on pediatric food-induced anaphylaxis and health-related quality of life.

Before that, I attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota for 4 years where I completed my Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Psychology and played NCAA Women’s Tennis.
